What the heck is wrong with me! I can’t even enjoy a burger!

If Friday night is any indication, this is going to be a long, slow weekend. That could be a good thing. The boss released us a bit early from work yesterday, so I got to come home and have a little bit of quiet time before picking up the kiddos. Then, I decided to let them splurge a little on dinner. We went to Scotty P’s.

Now, please note, I am not a health nut. Not at all. I love to eat, and I will eat just about anything. But, since I’ve started running, some things just don’t sit well with me, and some things just plain don’t even sound good. Like donuts. I haven’t eaten a donut in months, even though they’ve been brought into work on numerous occasions. I would look at them and they didn’t even appeal to me! Two weeks ago, I broke down and had one (ok, two), and afterwards I remembered why I hadn’t been eating them. I got that sugar high immediately, then quickly crashed, felt like crap, and didn’t even enjoy the taste of them. No mas donuts.

So, despite the fact that hamburgers are also one of those things that just don’t sound good, I didn’t feel like putting much effort into deciding where to go to dinner, or arguing with the kids over where we would eat. So, I picked something easy and close to home that I knew they would agree with right off. Scotty P’s.

I walked in the door, and I could smell the grease. Ugh. Then, I sat and stared at the menu. I knew what the kids would want…L loves grilled cheese. She’s not much of a meat eater, truth be told. Z wanted a chili burger. He tried to get me to let him have the adult burger (he’s starving) but I wouldn’t back down. Kiddie burger with chili would be bad enough for him. Now for me. What should I have. No hot dogs. Chicken sandwich didn’t appeal to me either. I was gonna break down and have a burger. Couldn’t go as far to have one with chili or barbeque sauce or anything else. Nope, just a regular burger, no pickles, add jalepenos please. Oh, and some cardiac fries, with chives, bacon and jalepenos. But just a small order…

So, I sat down to my dinner of champions. The first few bits of the burger were ok. Added some ranch, don’t waste any jalepeno that falls off the burger. The bun was tasty and toasty. But, there was no ‘mmmmmmm’ factor. None. Like a platonic relationship. Sigh. I can’t even enjoy a good burger anymore!

The cardiac fries…those were tasty too. But, the taste of the grease in the fries overpowered the enjoyment of the cheese. Oh yes, I still brought home the 2/3 of the order that were leftover. Doubt I’ll eat them though. But just couldn’t bear to see them go to waste.

And, of course, when I got home I felt blah. No sense of satisfaction. More of a sense of guilt. Yep, and then, like an hour later, the grease invading my veins, I progressed to feeling like a slug. Perhaps it was the week of partying…perhaps it was the heat…but it was most likely the crummy dinner I ate that put me to sleep before 10 o’clock on a Friday night.

I shed a tear for the burger I can no longer enjoy. Grilled chicken, here I come. Sob!

On the agenda for today: basketball practice, mow lawn, bathe dogs, shower, nap, maybe watch one of the three rental DVDs that have been sitting on top of my TV for three months. Kids are with their dad this weekend. Salsa dancing was on the agenda, but the girls have all bailed on me now.

  2. GACK! I can’t even remember the last time I had a burger. Don’t miss ’em. In fact, restaurant food in general gets less appealing all the time. “…no ‘mmmmmmmm’ factor. None. Like a platonic relationship…” Yep, that says it.

    Enjoy your weekend!

  3. Well, that’s quite the quandary. It’s probably a blessing.

Good analogy with the platonic thing 😉

  4. Lass, I’ll hop the first plane to Plano and we’ll go salsa dancing, sounds like fun!! I haven’t been a carnivore for 15+ years so I cannot sympathize with you on the burger thing. You should try veggie burgers at least at the grocery, they’re quite good!! I’m amazed that you can still train for a marathon and drink! As much as I love alcohol, if I were to get serious and go for a marathon, I think I’d have to give it up…what a sad day that’d be!

You can always sit back and watch the Live 8 concerts…should be good.

  5. Yea, foods like that don’t really appeal to me … they haven’t ever since I first started doing pilates and/or yoga two two years ago. But thankfully, I still heart all things chocolate. *smiles*

  6. I miss burgers. I miss pizza and Tex-Mex, too. *sigh*

I haven’t had any of it (save for some chicken fajitas at Blue Goose, and I only ate the chicken, peppers, and onions, plus a few chips and lots of hot sauce) while I’m focused on my goal. 19.5 pounds as of this morning.

When I get to where I wanna be, I’m gonna celebrate with a huge plate of cheese enchiladas. LOL–>
