It’s so cute when guys cook

Filed under: Uncategorized — by InterstellarLass @ 9:12 am

OK, OK. So I’m stereotyping cooking skills based on gender. I know that some guys can really do a bang-up job in the kitchen, and others are the grill-meisters. I know that in some households the men do all the cooking as the women tend to burn, scald and poison their food.

But, there are those guys who live the bachelor life, rarely preparing more than coffee and a bowl of ceral in the kitchen. Their stove has been cold and lonely for months on end, the oven used only for reheating last night’s pizza for breakfast. OK, I exaggerate just a little. Poetic license you know.

Nick made me dinner last night. Penne alla Vodka. There was even flaming of the chicken in the skillet. WOW! There were crackers with garlic sauce and proscuitto for me to snack on while I watched him cook. The cutest part though is that when I arrived, he had all the ingredients pre-measured out in little dishes, already sauteing the chicken, with the recipe taped to the microwave above the stove. I watched as he peered into cabinets, hoping that he had what he was looking for. Putting the food into serving dishes even! A lovely green salad, and the penne was fantastic. I was very, very impressed. The garlic bread was a little garlicky-salty, but still tasty. Cheesecake and strawberries for dessert. I again experimented on the wine a little bit, and found a decent red table wine, Il Bastardo that paired nicely with the pasta. Guys, take a lesson.

  1. I can whip up a pretty good spaghetti bolognaise or lasagne if needed. Otherwise I do fit your stereotype of a man cooking alas.

  2. I totally refuse to cook. Not that I can’t, but I don’t. So one major rule is: Date a man who doesn’t mind spending lots of time in the kitchen!

  3. Jealous…there I said it. Is there nothing this man can’t do?

  4. I have to cook for myself. No one else will. Plus, I threw away my microwave. I’m good with pasta, can bake my own breads and pasteries if I want to, but I don’t do alot of cooking because it is just me, and it is difficult to cook in single servings. I don’t get fancy because I can’t afford the ingredients, and it is a shame to waste vodka in cooking.

Anyway, Just wanted to pop in and say hi.

  5. I have been trying to post a stinking comment for like two days, but for some reason my computer wouldn’t load your blog. Sheesh!! Finally.

First of all, cute pics!!! You are adorable as is your date. Second, if you opened a breakfast restaraunt I would so go there. Third, I was exhausted from your weekend and I think that after I read your weekend update I took a nap. Fourth, boys cooking is super cute and super sexy. Fifth, I don’t like salsa dancing. I went out one night with the girls and it wasn’t my favorite time. However, I’m not big into dancing in the first place and that is not just any kind of dance. But, I’m glad you had fun.

Finally, all of this is off my chest. Whew!

  8. My husband can cook, but he’s very by-the-book, literally. He uses a cookbook to make scrambled eggs! I can’t bear to watch!

Flaming of the chicken. Now that’s impressive!

  12. My husband does most of the cooking around here – at least the good stuff. When he is away on business – like now- my stove is like the one you described. Very sad. The girls and I eat out a lot.

It sounds like a very lovely evening. So nice that he we nt to all of that trouble. He is a keeper for sure!!

PS That Il Bastardo looks like my Fat Bastard;-)

  14. That is sooo sweet. My husband can’t cook at all. He does good on the grill, most of the time though. Your dinner sounds wonderful.
