Yeah, I haven’t been doing much of it lately. I’m stuck and it sucks. I stare at my screen and my mind is blank. I hate saying I’m going to do something, then not do it. *sigh* Perhaps dramatic inspiration will suddenly hit me and words will pour from my fingers.
Back in October I submitted a piece to an online publication (see item #4). Today I got back my first rejection letter! Yipee! The reasons for rejection? Editor 1: I’m not seeing a story of substance here. Editor 2: Not enough of a story here. Also, tension is diluted because events are heralded or told to us (e.g. “Suddenly, disaster struck.”). Oh well. I didn’t expect it to be uesd on the first go round! I actually think it’s kind of funny. I’ll try again. I’m not deterred.

Congratulations. According to a friend of mine who is a editor you can’t call yourself a writer until you get your first rejection letter. You are now a writer.

I bought a special blue folder to hold all of my rejection letters. Counting the ones online, I now have around 30, and nearly all are form letters that say the same thing. “Thanks, but we don’t have a place for you right now” or words like that. What it means is “Your letter arrived at the bottom of that day’s mail pile and we didn’t really read it.”
But congrats anyway.

It’s kinda like Screech said one time on Saved By The Bell, “I’d rather be rejected by the prettiest girl in school than…” Hmm, I forget now. Come to think of it, that doesn’t really apply here.
There’s two kinds of criticism, constructive and destructive. Try and learn from the constructive.
Oh, and telling a secret to only 5 people is bad luck. Let me be #6 😉

You were brave and submitted your story. Some people don’t even get that far. Use their comments to your advantage. You’ll get there.

My closet has my many rejections posted on one side while the other has several acceptance letters. You can’t get published unless you submit. So congrats on taking that first step. Do it again!

I often tell people too much about my intentions, suppose its the added pressure to get stuff done if you tell people but then I moan that everyone is on my back about how its going… roll on lunch, time to chill 😉
