Race for the Cure

Filed under: Uncategorized — by InterstellarLass @ 10:04 am

Tonight Nick and I are driving down to Gatesville to see Nick’s brother and sister-in-law, Bubba and Marci. Tomorrow, we will rise, bright and early, to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K.

Marci is a Survivor, as is my grandmother. My step-great-grandmother also had breast cancer. Breast cancer affects over 200,000 women each year. Significant advances in breast cancer research and treatment have increased surviorship each year.

I’ve done the Komen several times before here in Dallas. It’s a powerful, powerful event. Just imagine being surrounded by almost 40,000 other women, all there for the same purpose. To beat breast cancer. Girls, take care of your girls!

  1. I make it a point to donate (and now volunteer) at the annual Blogging for Boobies, or Boobiethon in October.

It’s truly a great cause. Have a good run!

  2. We have a similar thing in the Uk called Race for Life.

I’m taking part on June 11th this year. It’s also 5k.

I did it a few years ago, and there was about 4000 other women doing the same thing. The atmosphere was wonderful. In October, a family friend lost her fight for life from secondary cancer which stemmed from breat cancer.

I’ve put a link to my online sponsor form on my blog.

  6. Hey girl,
I actually thought about you yesterday when I was out doing my run. Hope you did well. The Race for the Cure is one of the events I participate in every year that I can.
My city doesn’t have the Komen race until November so got a few more months and hopefully a few more races to go.
Like I said, hope it went well.

  8. I’ve lost too many women in my life to this hideous disease.
    I admire your courageous spirit.
