It was a Super Party!

Filed under: Elle & Zed — by InterstellarLass @ 9:22 am

Zed’s party went off well. My mom and sister decorated spectacular cakes (I say cakes, because while everyone else in the family was happy to eat chocolate, my grandfather has to be difficult and has to have a yellow cake), Zed asked for sandwiches, so there was no cooking, and everyone arrived on time!

Zed loved all the decorations, and the Superman cake was a work of art. For reals. The impression of the face didn’t come out of the pan, and so my artist sister had to free-hand in the face based on the photo of the finished cake that came with the pan. Don’t you think it turned out well?

Of course, as soon as we finished opening gifts, all Zed wanted to do was watch his Napoleon Dynamite DVD. Who can blame him really? And the DVD case is really cool because it has Napoleon doing his flippin’ sweet dance on the cover in a hologram.

But, we lured the kids outside for the smashing of the pinata. Zed was super excited, and we’d left it a surprise.

And, what could make a great party even better? The guests didn’t linger as they are want to do. As soon as the kids had picked up their candy, everyone packed up, said their good-byes, and left without any prodding whatsoever. Thing is, in my family, we can only hang out with each other as a group for a finite amount of time. Then it’s time to leave. Thankfully they’re learning that lesson after such a long time.

Nick and I got to clean up and have a bit of a rest before the season finale episodes of The Sopranos and Big Love. You can see that everything in the Sopranos is about to fall apart after it’s seemingly coming together. And the same for Big Love. Except you could see them setting themselves up for the fall. I’m so upset because I love all these characters, and now they’re all in danger.

White Trash Moment of the Weekend: After four hours of yard work Saturday, cutting limbs off my way-overgrown oak tree in the backyard, I showered and took Elle to lunch. When we got back home, I sat on the front porch, in my lawn chair, and watched Elle and Zed play catch. Then I fell asleep in my chair, on my front patio. At least I didn’t have a beer in my hand. Then, for dinner, Zed wanted CiCi’s. How could I refuse him on his birthday? Elle won some lovely teeth from one of the games, and Zed had to get in on the weird action. I’m mother of the year, I tell ya. Letting my kids do this crap in public.
