For your 21st Birthday, We’re Taking You…

On Friday night, my mom, my sister Nikki, my cousin Desi, my sister’s friend Andi and I took out my little Baby Sister Britlee to celebrate her 21st birthday. Man, it sucked being the oldest to turn 21, because I didn’t have a totally rockin’ cool older sister to plan a totally rockin’ cool night for my birthday!

Our final destination was a secret. Dinner was first. I scouted a few restaurants on our handy dandy Guidelive.com web site. Then I gave Britlee the choice between two genres of food, and she picked Greek. So we went to Opa! Grill and enjoyed an excellent dinner. The place was BYOB, so I made a stop at World Market and picked up five bottles of wine for forty dollars! Red Bicyclette Syrah (France), Toad Hollow Le Faux Chardonnay (France), Almira Los Dos (Spain), Famega Vinho Verde (Portugal), and Pillar Box Red (Australia). Desi loved the Pillar Box Red, and the Red Bicyclette Syrah was good too. But, my favorite was the Famega Vinho Verde. Very crisp, very light, very refreshing. The other two we didn’t get to bust into, so I’ll have to give those a try here soon.

Besides the waiter that hit on Britlee, and the other waiter that asked me for my Blender Hollandaise recipe, and the lady at the table catty-corner to us that kept giving us dirty looks, we had a fun time at dinner. The food was good and we had some really good laughs. And other than Britlee gettin’ a little crazy with the birthday Baklava, we didn’t have any incidents.

From dinner, we headed to our final destination. Britlee still had no idea where we were going. A few turns later, I asked “Do you know where we’re going yet?” She looked around. Are you taking me to a gay bar? she asked. “Honey, we’re not just going to a gay bar, I’m taking you to a drag show!” Woo Hoo! That’s so awesome! YAY! She was happy!

The Girls Three Sisters

The show started a little late, but when it did, it was pretty good. First up was Cassie Nova, who turned out to be the “host” of the show. She did little bits with the audience between acts. The next girl up could really kick those legs. I hurt just watching her. Her performance was very energetic. This was followed up by a Gwen Stefani segment and then a gal with supreme tucking skills. Her dress was millimeters from being fully exposing, yet we didn’t see a damn thing. She was much admired by many.

I think the highlight of my night though was watching my mom interact with her first gay man. “Rob” started talking to us for some reason, and when he figured out that three of my mom’s four kids were present, and that she was as old as he was, well, for some reason I think he got a little crush on her. He complimented her and teased her and made her laugh. I thought it was sweet.

After the show was mostly over, we went to the downstairs portion of the club and danced. My sister Nikki isn’t much of a dancer, so she scooted her butt off the floor. One by one, the girls trickled off the floor, and it was just Britlee and I left, gettin’ our groove on. And finally, Britlee was pooped out too. So, just before 1:30 am, the night ended.

Britlee had fun, I was happy that she was happy, my mom got her groove on with a gay man, and everyone got home safely. Next up, my mom’s 50th. Got to get planning. Here’s the slideshow in total!

Birthday Baklava and Drag Queens? Nice.
I’ll have to tell the wife that’s what I want next year…
    Well…minus the Drag Queens.

  9. Is it proper to refer to them as a she, or a he? Because they’re really guys, right? I should already know this, shouldn’t I? If you keep referring to someone as a girl or a she all night, after awhile… Well as a guy, I just want to avoid any confusion.

  10. What a blast. I wish someone had taken me out for my 21st like that. I think I went to a nearby Nevada town and gambled most of the night. I did get to go shopping afterwards, but I missed out on a night on the town partying with the girls.

  13. I love it! What a great way to have a birthday party. I hope you took pics of the sourpour woman and her dirty looks. Could be good fodder for a future post.
