12,250 Down

Calories that is. I weighed myself this morning, and I’m down 3.5 pounds from the last time I weighed two weeks ago. I need to be more consistent about stepping on the scale. But it was that week and I hate stepping on the scale then.

One has to burn off or avoid intake of 3500 calories to lose 1 pound. I’ve also determined my ‘cardio zone’ heart rate versus my ‘weight-loss zone’ heart rate, and I try to watch that when I’m at the gym. Did you know that there is actually a point where you can exercise that you are burning glycogen (muscle fuel) and not fat? When exercise at over 80% of your max heart rate, you hit that ‘anaerobic’ zone and you start to burn glycogen. This is important if you want to lose weight. You can determine your max heart rate, and with your resting heart rate, you can then figure out your own ‘zones’ for exercise.

My friend Judy is trying to tempt me. She sent an email out looking for runners for a relay race in Reno-Tahoe. Be-yoo-tee-ful. How can I not want to run there? And I think I’ve found a half-marathon to run right before my full marathon training begins. It’s local, in my ‘hometown’ in fact. And I think I could get Elle and Zed ready to run the 5K event. Elle’s been doing so good on her Marathon Kids endeavor, and Zed’s been heading to the gym with me. I think they need a challenge!

  2. Food? Did someone mention food? I used to know what that was, but now I only seem to know caffeine… I am thinking of taking up smoking just to add to the whole effect.

  3. Lass, You’re seriously my hero at the moment (check out my blog for a little plug for you, my dear). How awesome that you’re all into these runs and being healthy and getting your kids involved too. How do you have time for all that. I haven’t even been able to drag myself to the gym ONCE yet this year!!! I’m a failure!! (dramatic sigh). Keep up the good work!

  5. Good for you, Lass!

I’m being a loser again, too. I had to start stepping on the scale every day, or it was too easy to overeat and slack off. It was my doctor’s suggestion to do that, and it seems to be working!

  7. Are you good? Nice work! I’m not making much headway on the 8 I want to lose because I always seem to increase my food intake with my exercise. So, I’m off to check your link.

  9. Yay for you and your 3.5 lbs!!! Ever since I stopped working in an office, I lost 40 lbs. I can only say that it has to be that I’m moving more, hating my job(s) less. So, quit your job, and get a job where you move around all day. Good advice huh?!? Keep up the good work!!
