Thanks for your thoughts

I appreciate all the good vibes, well wishes, prayers and anything else you had to offer. That was difficult news to receive last night. I try to stay away from politics and my emphatic opinions because it seems to drive people away. Every now and then I spout off my thoughts, and now that may be happening more often.

I’m proud of my cousin for making the choice to join the USMC branch of our military. He’s a smart kid and was very sure of his decision. I will think of his safety every day. I will pray that his leaders make good decisions that keep him and his fellow Marines in good care.

Yet I can’t see the wisdom of the choices of the very tip-top head of his leadership. You know who. Initials start with GB and DC and CR and (formerly) DR. As time goes by, more and more comes out about the poor decision to go to war. The faulty ‘evidence’. The Plame scandal. Tenet’s sad little protestations. And now, the fact that the ‘rebuilding’ effort takes one step forward then, when we look away, two steps back. It’s like trying to clean up after toddlers. You fix one thing, then move on to the next, and they come behind you and break it again. When are we going to face facts that our ideas don’t translate? Their culture, their religion, their mentality, their priorities – none of it is even remotely close to ours. And what makes our administration think that these people want ‘democracy’ foisted on them?

And the thing that leaves me in even greater amazement is that Congress was fully ready to impeach Clinton for getting a blow job in the Oval Office, then lying about it. And the only thing Congress will do now is pass a half-ass resolution that they knew would be vetoed, with no hope of overriding said veto with the required 2/3 of Congress. The man led us to war on lies…and not just lies that they thought were true…lies that they knew were lies! And we allow him to continue.

I can’t figure it out. None of it makes sense to me. I’m dumbfounded. And it makes me wonder who is really running the show here? I surely don’t think it’s the people that are elected as officials to serve in the people’s interest. I’m starting to wonder if our system isn’t broken.

  1. There was this whole thing over here when they were trying to decide if sending Prince Harry to Iraq would be too dangerous. I think he should go. At the end of the day, if they’re worried about what happens to him, shouldn’t they be worried about all the other troops out there? If it’s too dangerous for him, isn’t it too dangerous for everyone else? I think they should pull all the troops out. They don’t even want us there. What good is coming out of it?

It is dangerous for them all. But when one person makes it more dangerous for those around him, I don’t know if it’s a good idea. Still, I know that he wants to go, so I wish him the same saftey and care that I want for my cousin.

  2. Consider, too, that “we the people” don’t really know the whole story. We are only privvy to what the media decides to tell us. You’ll find out the truths that we never hear in the news once you start hearing from your cousin, and that might help ease some of the confusion and frustration you feel about our administration.

If he doesn’t have a laptop with a wireless card, consider getting him one – they’re all hooked up over there. Dell has some fantastic refurbed laptops. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

From people I’ve talked to that have been there, it seems they’re pretty evenly divided with their opinions too. Some believe their purpose is clear and is still worth fighting for. Others don’t understand what they’re doing there. And the same thing goes for servicemen that we know that served in Vietnam. I just hope that this ends soon. But honestly I can’t see a way out.

  3. Nuke em’ all and let the god of their choice sort em’ out.

It’s a good system, it’s just being run by idiots.

    Again, I blame Lincoln.

    We’ll talk.

  5. Broken beyond belief hun, unfortunately. And whats even worse is their is no quick way to fix it. They had this master plan only clear to them and fooled the rest of us with smoke and mirrors

I don’t even think their ‘master plan’ is clear to them anymore. Someone spilled coffee on it or something, and something very important got smudged.

  6. Leanne has good advice, and you might want to read this about how all blog posts and e-mails have to be cleared by a commanding officer (new rules).

I can understand the need to protect positions and information, but where does the censorship really end? How else are we supposed to get information that’s not filtered through the propoganda machine? That frightens me even more.
