Bless the Dry Martini

Stress is an ever-present factor in my life. Always has been. Always will be I’m sure. I can wish for the carefree days, but just when it seems they’re around the corner, something else will pop up for me to worry about, take care of, or whatever. Today was no exception. New worry added to the list. I’m amazed I don’t have any grey hairs or stomach-eating ulcers.

So, when I got the opportunity to go to a going-away happy hour (someone else is going away, not me) I got to enjoy a nice dry Absolut martini with extra olives. Mmmmm. Good. Then I went to dinner the lovely project manager that I’ve been working with on my recent project. I spent a little too much on my dinner, but it was a good conversation, good food, and great dessert. It was nice to relax and have adult chat time. I’ve had a few ‘Calgon, take me away’ moments lately, but I don’t particularly enjoy baths, so bathing plump green olives in dry vodka is particularly enticing to me.

Tomorrow is Friday, and I will leave work early so as to get my kiddos from their dad. Elle has soccer practice, and then I’m taking both kids to a Harry Potter launch party at the bookstore from which we pre-ordered the 7th and final book. Zed has read them all. I couldn’t get past Chapter 3 of the first book. I figure since we’re on the 5th movie it’s a little too late to go back to catch up. We’ll get the book at midnight and then head home. Elle has a soccer game at 9:06 am Saturday. *Yawn* I’m already tired. But the kids and I will have fun at the party.

What are your weekend plans? How Harry-hip are you?

  1. Hopefully a few Dirty Martinis. Beyond that, it all hangs on the weather. Oh there will be golf

  2. My wife is thinking of getting the book at midnite, and if she does, will probably read most of the night.

Me? I’ll try and entertain the kids a bit. Might rain.

I’ve read the first couple of Harry books, and seen all of the movies.

  3. Tonight, live at the Hershey stadium, The Police!!! Tomorrow, my sister’s birthday and roller derby bout, along with any associated debauchery. Sunday, my brother in law’s band The Butchers are playing in Harrisburg. Monday, back to work for some much needed rest.

  4. My brother is coming to town, so I’ll be working at the restaurant and visiting with him. And maybe picking up the new HP if I can brave the crowds.

Hope you get some relaxation in this weekend!

  5. My son was given the HP book. He thinks it will be here tomorrow from Amazon. No big parties for us. My girls may see the movie tonight.

When I figure out not to have so much stress I will let ya know. It is crazy isn’t it?

  6. Plump olives soaking in Absolut wins over sitting in a tub for me too.

I do NOT do Harry Potter, on principle. It was like the Beanie Baby craze. I would rip off the tags at first chance! Rebel, I know.

Have a fun and stress free weekend!

  7. I’m in the Harry Dark! Though I did see the first movie. Have fun with the kids at the party! Should be good clean fun.

  8. I’m not Harry-hip, although I love the movies! I wrote about it on the blog today.

I could use a good drink right now, IN the bathtub without anyone pounding on the door to get in. not even hub.. lol

  9. My weekend plans are staying in and being quiet.

How hip am I? Not as much as I want to be and more than I was last year. My kids would say, “um, I don’t think so.”

    Take care 🙂

  10. Sounds like you deserved the martini. 🙂 I can’t believe you don’t have any grey hairs. No fair!!

  11. I wish I liked real martini’s. I just don’t. I need the froo-froo one’s that are all sweet and sugary. I’ve never read a Harry Potter book, seen several movies, but I do love them. Harry Potter turned 18 years old today. And $22 million dollars richer!

  12. I’m a fan of Harry Potter, I’ve got to admit.

I’m waiting, though, to read book the seventh. I figure I’ll need something to entertain me next weekend on the bus to Kansas. 19 hours of monotonous prairie… *sigh*
